Today is Socratic Seminar for all classes. Students will learn methods of debate which include:
1. Everyone must participate 2. Stay on topic 3. Don't speak over one another 4. It's ok to disagree; it's not ok to be rude These are life skills that, hopefully, my students can use in other areas besides just English. Today, students are working on Level 3 questions. They've written 15 of them, and now we're turning them into debate topics. Students will research their opinions about 3 questions, and tomorrow we'll have Socratic Seminar to debate opinions.
Many of my students are gone to the football state playoffs today. Because of this, we are taking an AR reading day. Points are due at the end of this nine weeks.
Most students presented their non-fiction items today, and did quite well. Others will present tomorrow because we are behind due to the assembly yesterday.
Students have turned in their reports, and I am grading them and returning them. Ask your student to see what they made. We're moving on to non-fiction. Today, we looked at current events and defined non-fiction.
All essays were turned in today. Students were taught how to convert Google Docs to Word Docs, and then they printed their papers.
Hopefully, all of my classes will be finishing their research papers by Wednesday of this week. Ask your child to see what they've been working on in class!
